Job Description

Procurement Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Develop crop-season procurement strategies and identify optimal buying windows based on harvest cycles, weather, demand, inventory, and cash flow.
  • Recommend paddy varieties, purchase timing, and buying volume to support milling profitability.
  • Monitor farm-gate prices, trader prices, mill prices, export prices, competitor activity, government policies, exchange rates, and freight.
  • Prepare daily market reports, weekly outlooks, and monthly price forecasts.

Quality, Supplier & Commercial Management

  • Evaluate paddy quality indicators such as moisture, foreign matter, damaged grain, chalkiness, grain length, and head rice potential.
  • Recommend purchases based on expected milling yield and profitability, not purchase price alone.
  • Build relationships with farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, traders, and drying facilities.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, quality claims, and contracts.

Margin Optimization, Analytics & Coordination

  • Work with Production, Finance, Sales, Logistics, Quality, and Warehouse teams to maximize gross contribution.
  • Evaluate procurement decisions based on total milling margin, including purchase cost, drying loss, recovery, by-product value, and selling price.
  • Develop procurement insights related to savings, supplier performance, yield by supplier, inventory ageing, and forecast accuracy.
  • Improve procurement SOPs, traceability, digital procurement systems, supplier scorecards, and supplier base.

Job Requirement

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain, Business, Food Science, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in paddy, rice, grain, or agricultural commodity procurement, including at least 3 years in commercial procurement or sourcing with direct responsibility for procurement decisions.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of paddy procurement, rice milling, agricultural commodity sourcing, market intelligence, supplier development, and inventory strategy.
  • Ability to evaluate paddy quality, milling yield, total milling margin, drying loss, recovery, by-product value, and profitability.
  • Strong negotiation, procurement analytics, supplier relationship management, and commercial decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for procurement analysis.

Language / Other Requirements

  • Experience sourcing from farmers, traders, cooperatives, and aggregators in Vietnam is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with rice mills or grain processing businesses is a significant advantage.
  • Ability to travel extensively across the Mekong Delta.

Personality & Attitude

  • Commercially driven and margin-focused.
  • Analytical, proactive, and detail-oriented in procurement decisions.
  • Strong ownership in supplier development and sourcing performance.
  • Able to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and work in a field-based procurement environment.
