What is the MBTI?
The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is a method in which a series of multiple choice questions will be used to analyze a person’s personality. The MBTI results illustrate how people perceive the world and make decisions for any problems in their whole life.
The MBTI focuses on the normal populations and emphasizes the natural difference of each person. Nowadays, the MBTI has become common and used as a fairly accurate personality classification method. This assessment allows you to better understand yourself and the people around you, or find an appropriate job.
How does the MBTI work?
This method originated from the classification theories in Carl Gustav Jung’s 1921 book Psychological Types and developed by Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers. The initial psychological questions evolved into the Myers-Briggs Classification Index and was published in 1962. The current MBTI classifies the personality based on 4 basic groups, each of which is a dichotomous pair of eight functional and cognitive factors:
1. Natural Tendencies: Extroversion - Introversion
Extroverts feel energized when spending time with others, while introverts prefer to recharge themselves. According to some psychologists, extroverts are "living with crowds, partying, and spending time with others," while introverts "prefer re-energizing through quiet time and the pursuit of the loneliness."
And the fact that most of us are likely a combination of the two types ("ambivert")
2. Understanding and Perceiving the World: Sensing - Intuition
While the Sensing (type S) focuses on on physical reality and their five senses to perceive and gather information; on the other hand, the Intuition (type N) tends to gather information from a wider angle.
Type N are imaginative and future-focused people and Type S are direct and literal thinkers. It is estimated that S-types make up about three-quarters of the population, far more outnumbering the intuitive types.
3. Deciding and choosing: Thinking - Feeling
"Choose your heart or follow your mind" is here. Rational people tend to analyze facts and influencing factors to make a decision; while most Emotional people often make decisions based on the value of emotions and relationships.
4. Ways and Actions: Judgment - Perception
A Principle person will have a desire for things according to the framework and schedule or plan; they themselves will also feel secure when everything goes according to principles or procedures... In contrast, flexible people are people who are flexible to change in many situations, the ability to adapt
